Dear Editor,

Dr. Robert Swain is a great addition to your list of contributors!

[Editor: Thanks, Robert. I couldn't agree with you more.]

Its a disappointment to read that Juvie Ortiz is retiring. I met him several years ago and there is no finer servant to the state of California. The man is sharp as a tack, respectful to the people he interacts with, and fair. It was less than ideal circumstances -- I was drinking too much and probably being too loud. He was not really happy to meet me I'd guess, but that's my fault. He was still respectful and treated me better than I frankly deserved. Thanks and California's loss. Good article, Mary Golden.

Thanks to Malcolm Riordan [Best Friends] my home has plenty of pets. Those pictures he has all the time make me want another cat or dog. We have cats three and four and a second dog just because of him. Stop that guy before my neighbors think it is time to get me to a shrink!

[Sorry, Carolyn. We can't stop Malcolm. Our readers love him too much! Besides, he might bite.]

Re: Yak Tityu Tityu, Northern Chumash, and the Chumash Article (Part I and Part II)

I have been blessed to live in Chumash territory and feel very humbled to learn more about the people who walked this land before me. Thank you for this very important mini series on Chumash history that I will encourage others to read. To educate ourselves on these people is to understand that the affects of forceful compliance and oppression can devastate and destroy peace rather than promote it.

The videos on the front page of each issue are great fun. Going into YouTube to search for interesting things to watch always distracts me from getting any work done. A monthly dose, and all about home, is perfect. Love them!

[You'll get a kick out of this month's video, Mary. It's a car commercial filmed in San Luis Obispo County - back in the '50s! - Judy]
